» Ascorbyl Palmitate contains not less than 95.0 percent and not more than 100.5 percent of C22H38O7, calculated on the dried basis.
Packaging and storage— Preserve in tight containers, in a cool, dry place.
Identification— Dissolve 1 g in 25 mL of alcohol, and add 1 mL of a 1 in 1000 solution of 2,6-dichlorophenol-indophenol sodium in alcohol: the blue color of the 2,6-dichlorophenol-indophenol sodium solution is discharged immediately.
Melting range 741: between 107 and 117.
Specific rotation 781S: between +21 and +24.
Test solution: 100 mg per mL, in methanol.
Loss on drying 731 Dry it in vacuum at 60 for 1 hour: it loses not more than 2.0% of its weight.
Residue on ignition 281: not more than 0.1%.
Residual solvents 467: meets the requirements.
(Official January 1, 2007)
Assay— Dissolve about 300 mg of Ascorbyl Palmitate, accurately weighed, in 50 mL of alcohol, add 30 mL of water, and immediately titrate with 0.1 N iodine VS to a yellow color that persists for not less than 30 seconds. Each mL of 0.1 N iodine is equivalent to 20.73 mg of C22H38O7.
